We visited this campground looking for a good RV park for our 43' motorhome. We did not stay here because the manager (we'll call Mr. T) was so rude, unfriendly and acted like he was so "disgusted with the world," we had to walk out. We also were told he (the park) has a Very Strict Cancellation Policy of 15 days cancelling. Watch out if you decide to cancel within the 15 days! He's unforgiving! On the flip side: This is the nicest park in the Canon City area. Most other parks only have 30 amps, no shade and unlevel sites. At least at this park, there's some shade and full hook-ups with 50 amps. So if you don't care about his attitude, then this is the place to stay.
This is a lovely park that near the Rocky Mountain National Park. The drive on Hwy. 34 from Loveland to Estes Park is beautiful. We love this campground because you back your rig up to the Big Thompson River. The sound of the rushing river is like being in heaven! Yes, the park has dirt roads, but they do spray it down to keep the dust down. That's no problem. Beautiful cottonwood trees provide plenty of shade along the riverside. You need to request a river site if you want to be on the river.
As far as a State Park, its pretty nice. Stayed in Cottonwood Section. Great view of lake. Paved pads. Sewer dump-out across road. Some shade. We have a 43 ft. coach and was comfortable. Beautiful Rifle Falls State Park 5 minutes up the road. There, sites are small and limited, but worth going there for a beautiful hike around the "falls." Also great golf course 5 minutes down the road. We played there and just loved its diversity. The town of Rifle is small but quaint. Try LaRoca's Mexican Restr. or the Base Camp Cafe in town for great food!
